Grandparents Day

Grandparents Day is a special day dedicated to honouring and celebrating grandparents and the important role they play in families and society. It is observed on the first Sunday in October in the UK. The day aims to show appreciation for grandparents' love, wisdom, and support, and to strengthen the bond between generations.

Things a Manager Can Do to Promote This Day at Work

Share Stories and Photos: Encourage staff to bring in photos of their grandparents or share stories about them. Create a display board in a communal area where these photos and stories can be pinned up. This can foster a sense of connection and allow colleagues to learn more about each other’s family backgrounds.

Grandparents Day Cards: Provide materials for staff to create or write cards for their grandparents. Set up a crafting station with cards, stickers, pens, and other decorative items. This activity can be a heartfelt way for employees to express their gratitude and can be a fun, creative break during the day.

Story Sharing Session: Host a lunchtime or end-of-day session where staff can share favourite memories or lessons learned from their grandparents. This can be done informally or as a more structured event. Sharing these stories can highlight the significant impact grandparents have on our lives and foster a sense of community.
